Barcelona further tightened the Spanish La Liga title race. The Catalans defeated Sevilla 4-1 on Sunday. With this victory, the points gap between the top three teams in the league table stood at 50, 49 and 48. This has intensified the fight between Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.

The match was held at Sevilla's home ground Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Although Sevilla managed to put four of its eight shots on target, Barcelona put six on target. Robert Lewandowski scored for the team in the seventh minute of the match, which gave Barca the lead. Lewandowski scored the goal from Inigo Martinez's return and a great cross from Rafinha.

Sevilla's only goal came 15 minutes later, through Ruben Vargas. However, the first half ended in a 1–1 draw. Fermín López came on as a substitute in the second half, and returned to the field to score from a cross by Pedri to put the team ahead again.

Rafinha then scored the team's third goal in the 55th minute. Barcelona were reduced to 10 men shortly after, when the referee showed Djibril a yellow card for a foul and then a straight red card via the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). However, Barcelona continued to score despite this change, and a minute before the end of the match, Eric García scored the team's fourth goal.

The victory moved Barcelona to third place in the league table with 48 points from 23 matches, just one point behind leaders Real Madrid. Coach Hansi Flick said in his post-match speech, "This victory was very valuable for us. The players played with courage and maturity."
