The Bangladesh national cricket team has officially started training for the upcoming Champions Trophy immediately after the end of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) T20 tournament. Almost all the players of the national team practiced at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur under the supervision of head coach Phil Simmons.
Before the official start of training, some players trained under assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin. Only the players of the team that failed to qualify for the BPL playoffs started training in advance.
Captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto was among the players who started training early. Although Shanto's team Fortune Barisal became champions, captain Tamim Iqbal said that Shanto did not get a chance to play for Barisal due to the team combination.
Tamim said, "It is very unfortunate. We could not give him as much opportunity as he deserved. It becomes difficult to keep him in the best XI of the team combination. Almost all the players in the Champions Trophy team have performed well in this year's BPL. Which has made Bangladesh confident of doing well in the Champions Trophy.
Bangladesh last played in the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy in England in 2017. This is the Tigers' best success in the ICC tournament so far.
Bangladesh, who are in Group 'A' with India, Pakistan and New Zealand, can leave the country on February 13. The Tigers will start their mission with a match against India in Dubai on February 20. Then Bangladesh will face New Zealand and host Pakistan on February 24 and 27 respectively. Both matches will be held in Rawalpindi.
