Recount Petition in Dhaka-8, Move to Block Oath: Nasiruddin Patwary

Nasiruddin Patwary, Chief Coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has lost the parliamentary election in the Dhaka-8 constituency. Despite drawing attention with an energetic campaign and strong statements ahead of the polls, he ultimately failed to secure victory.
Following his defeat, Patwary has submitted an আবেদন to the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) seeking a recount of the votes. He has also reportedly requested that the oath-taking of the winning candidate, Mirza Abbas, be withheld. Patwary claims there were irregularities in the vote-counting process and argues that a recount is necessary to ensure the accuracy of the final result.
Meanwhile, after the results were announced, Patwary once again drew attention through a post on social media. On Sunday (February 15), he shared a smiling photo of himself and wrote, “Our struggle will be stronger than ever.”
The post quickly went viral. Within just one hour, it reportedly received around 220,000 reactions, more than 10,000 comments, and over a thousand shares. While many supporters expressed solidarity, critical remarks were also visible in the comment section.
Political analysts say that by pursuing legal avenues over the election results and maintaining an active presence on social media, Nasiruddin Patwary appears to be attempting to consolidate his political position. All eyes are now on the Election Commission’s decision regarding his petitions.
