BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has set foot on the country’s soil after 17 years. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman posted on Facebook welcoming his return. In a short post on his verified Facebook profile on Thursday, the Jamaat Amir wrote, “Mr. Tarique Rahman, welcome to the family!”
Earlier, at 11:40 am on Thursday, the Bangladesh Biman Airlines BG-202 (Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner) flight carrying Tarique Rahman along with his wife and daughter landed at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. From the airport, he left for the rally organized by BNP in the 300-feet area of Purbachal by a special bus.
Several lakh leaders and activists are waiting for him at the rally venue. It is learnt that he will address the leaders and activists there. He will then visit BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara. Later, he is scheduled to go to residence number 196 in Gulshan.
Earlier, the flight carrying them landed in Sylhet at 9:55 am. After a short stopover there, the plane departed for Dhaka at 11:13 am.
Upon reaching Dhaka, Tarique Rahman was welcomed at the airport by his mother-in-law Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu with a garland of flowers. Members of the BNP standing committee also welcomed him.
Political analysts believe that Tarique Rahman's return to the country after a long exile has created new discussions and interest in the country's political arena.
