Attack on journalists at BNP office in Gulshan, mobile vandalism!

An attack on journalists took place at the BNP Chairperson's Gulshan office. This unpleasant incident took place at around 4:30 pm today, Saturday (October 19) while the candidates of Sylhet division were being interviewed.

It is learnt that journalists from various media outlets were present at the BNP Chairperson's office at that time. "Amar Desh" newspaper reporter Zahidul Islam said that he had been in the office since morning. At around 4:30 pm, he was recording a video inside while interviewing the candidates. Suddenly, some people attacked him.

He said, "I was recording a video. Suddenly, 3-4 people came and dragged me. They broke my mobile phone and took away my press card. I told them that if recording a video is prohibited, I will delete the footage. But they beat me up without listening to me and threw me out of the office."

Other journalists also attacked:
Daily Star journalist Sajjad, Naya Diganta's Asim Al Imran and Jago News' Khalid Hossain were also attacked and harassed during the incident, according to the journalists present.

Outrage in the journalist community:
After this incident, there has been intense anger among journalists covering the BNP beat. They said, "Blooding a journalist, vandalizing a mobile phone and taking away an ID card - these are not acceptable in any way. We will jointly protest the matter."

BNP leaders' reaction:
BNP media cell convener Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel said about the incident, "The incident is sad. We have come to know about the matter. Appropriate action will be taken after identifying those responsible."

He also said that the matter has been reported to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other members of the standing committee. They have expressed concern over the incident and have ordered a prompt investigation and action against those responsible.

BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said, "The incident is very sad. I have already informed the top brass about the matter."
