The panels of Bangladesh Nationalist Chhatra Dal (Chhatra Dal) suffered a dismal defeat in the central student union elections of the country's four autonomous universities following the July mass uprising. After the elections, Central Vice President Zahir Raihan Ahmed explained the reason for the defeat.
At a press conference at the TSCC Press Corner of Islamic University on Sunday (October 19), he said, "The administration's mismanagement of the elections, short-term preparation, inability to adequately reach out to students, and staying out of campus for a long time are the main reasons for our defeat."
He also said, "Before and during the elections, we saw a lot of negligence from the administration. Despite repeated complaints, we did not receive any response. Our relationship with the students is a little less due to not being able to stay in the hall for 17 long years. Whereas the Chhatra Shibir panels stay in the hall for a long time, they can naturally reach out to the students more."
Regarding the student union, he said, “We hope that the IXSU constitution will be finalized by November. The mismanagement that occurred in the past four elections should not be repeated in the IXSU elections. All those in charge should not work in the interests of any single group.”
In addition, last Saturday, Zahir Raihan came to the campus to collect resumes of workers for the election of the new leadership of the Chhatra Dal branch. He said that those who were previously persecuted, regular and acceptable to the students will be given priority in the new committee.
