District BNP member principal Anwarul Islam Anu has received the green signal for nomination from BNP for Natore-3 (Singra) constituency, which has given rise to a new controversy in local politics. Since Anu is the uncle of former ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak's wife, this nomination has given rise to special discussion.
District BNP member Anwarul Islam Anu said that BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman called him on the night of October 12 and gave him the green signal. Anu said, "Party and kinship are different things. There may be kinship, but what I do for the party is the big thing. Since I have been in BNP politics, many people have not been born."
Anu has already served as the acting convener of Singra Upazila BNP for a few months. However, a section of local BNP leaders and activists have criticized this nomination. They alleged that Anu has not made any special contribution to the party, has not been in any case or jailed in the last 17 years as an opposition party and has got the green signal mainly due to the influence of Junaid Ahmed Palak. According to them, “The locals will never accept how a person who lives in an AC room can be accepted as a candidate with the paddy sheaf symbol of Singra constituency.”
On the other hand, District BNP Joint Convener and nomination candidate Daudar Mahmud said, “I am not aware of the green signal. If he is given a green signal by BNP, then I will be given a red signal. We are ready for any decision as ideological soldiers of BNP.”
The controversy over this nomination in politics has not stopped yet. Amidst criticism from party colleagues and local leaders, Anu has mentioned that the process of his nomination is legal and within the party rules.
