The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has submitted its income and expenditure account for the 2024 calendar year to the Election Commission. According to the account, the party's income this year was 156.5 lakh 94 thousand 842 taka and expenditure was 480 lakh 4 thousand 823 taka. As a result, currently 108.5 lakh 90 thousand 19 taka is deposited in the BNP fund.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi submitted the party's account to Election Commission Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the Election Bhaban on Sunday (July 27) morning. He later shared this information with the media.
Rizvi said that the party's sources of income were monthly subscriptions from members, book sales, bank interest and one-time donations. The expenditure categories included personal assistance, disaster relief, program implementation, printing leaflets and posters, and other party activities.
Addressing the Election Commission at that time, Rizvi said, “The previous commission had lost its institutional independence. They were subservient to the executive branch and had become a tool of fascism. The election that was given legitimacy by voting during the day and night was a betrayal of the people.”
He also said, “The previous Election Commission was made up of spineless, job-hungry people. They even became an institution subordinate to Sheikh Hasina.”
However, expressing BNP’s expectations for the current Election Commission, Rizvi said, “We want the commission to create an environment for a responsible, free and fair election. If there is any conspiracy regarding the election, it will thwart it and prove itself to the people as a trustworthy institution.”
