Spokespersons of Jamiat Ulamae Islam Bangladesh formed a human chain against the recent floods and river encroachment in the country. The human chain was held in front of the National Press Club on Wednesday (August 28). Secretary General of Jamiat Ulama Islam Bangladesh Maulana Dr. Golam Mohiuddin Ikram.

He said, Bangladesh is a riverine country. People's lives are connected with river flow. In that sense, if the river survives, we will also survive. But all the rivers of the country have dried up and turned into dead canals. There is no sign. Due to the reduction of river water, agriculture, industry, irrigation, shipping, plants, environment, fisheries, drinking water, etc. are facing many threats, destroying the fertility of the land and destroying industries. Padma, Yamuna, Teesta rivers in Uoran area have completely silted up.

He also said that India, our big neighboring country surrounded on three sides, violated all the rules of international rivers and turned Bangladesh into a desert by unilaterally damming upstream. Again the heavy rains suddenly released the water and drowned us. This time too, India deliberately opened the Dambur and Ghazaldoba dams without any prior announcement and caused sudden floods and pushed the people of Bangladesh to death.

The Secretary General of Jamiat Ulama Islam Bangladesh said that the Indian government opened the dam without any prior announcement as a retaliatory behavior for not being able to sustain their servants in Bangladesh. As a result, the people of Bangladesh have faced a terrible disaster in history. Such suicidal activities in India are causing massive loss of lives, loss of crops and resources. Which is an irreparable loss for us.

For the interim government, he said, India should immediately be forced to follow international river laws on all rivers connected to Bangladesh along the border. India will have to take responsibility for the damage caused by artificial flood crisis in Bangladesh by opening the dam at night without announcement. Otherwise the vast masses of this country will give India a bitter reply.
