Incessant rains and hill slopes coming down from upstream have flooded the lower areas of the area by entering through 11 broken dams of Ceyloniya, Muhuri and Kahua rivers in Phulgazi and Parashuram upazilas of Feni.

A total of 70 villages of the two upazilas were flooded when water entered through 11 broken dams in several areas including Dakshin Shaldhar of Parashuram, Daulatpur of Fulgazi, Nilkshi, Kismat Ghaniamora on Tuesday (August 20). In this, cropland and fish enclosures are submerged in flood water.

Parashuram Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Afroza Habib Shapla said that 1400 families have become waterlogged due to water entering the locality due to the dam breaking in the village of South Shaldhar of Parashuram Upazila. He said that on the instructions of the administration, dry food and clean water are being provided to the people of waterlogged areas. Fulgazi Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Tanya Bhuiyan said that water entered through the broken embankment in several places of the upazila and large areas were flooded.

Besides, the shop owners said that several shops including the lower part of the market were flooded due to rising water in Fulgazi section of Feni-Parashuram road.

As the Feni-Parashuram road is under water, all traffic has been stopped since 11 pm on Monday.

The executive officials of Phulghazi and Parashuram upazilas said that due to the continuous rains of the last 7 days, the water coming down from upstream India has entered through the old broken dams of Muhuri, Kahua and Ceyloniya rivers.
