ECNEC meeting proposes approval of 12 projects, various development sectors are getting importance

The 12th meeting of the current fiscal year and the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) is underway. The meeting began at 10 am on Tuesday (June 9) at the Cabinet Division of the Secretariat.

A total of 12 projects, both new and revised, were presented for approval in the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, sources said.

The potential cost of these proposed projects is estimated at about 8,106 crore taka. The projects have been prioritized in the infrastructure, water resources, health, information technology, local government, power and fuel and social security sectors.

The source further said that an important project related to the establishment of a Chinese economic zone on 800 acres of land in Anwara area of ​​Chittagong at a cost of about 4,000 crore taka was presented for approval in the meeting. It is expected that this project may get approval before the Prime Minister's upcoming visit to China.

In addition, a new project called Bangladesh Children's Hospital and Institute Expansion Project-2 has also been launched by ECNEC to strengthen the development of child healthcare. The potential cost of this project has been estimated at 344 crore taka and the implementation period has been set from July 2026 to June 2028.

Several other major development projects, such as the development of the Anwara-Baanshkhali-Chakaria regional highway, the construction of an integrated upazila land complex, and the expansion of children's hospitals, are being presented at the ECNEC meeting.

It is expected that if these projects are approved after the meeting, a new momentum will be gained in the country's infrastructure and social development activities.
