Bogra has officially started its journey as the country's 13th city corporation. Tarique Rahman announced its inauguration by unveiling the plaque of Bogra City Corporation at 12 noon on Monday (April 20). After the inauguration, he participated in a tree plantation program on the city corporation premises.
Earlier in the morning, he left for Bogra by road from his residence in Gulshan, Dhaka and reached Bogra Circuit House at 9:55 am. Later, he walked to the District Judge's Court around 11:30 am and inaugurated the e-bail bond program.
Later, he officially announced it by unveiling the plaque of Bogra City Corporation. After the inauguration, he is scheduled to leave for his ancestral area of Bagbari around 12:30 pm. There are programs to inaugurate the canal excavation program, distribute family cards, launch the measles-rubella vaccination campaign and visit ancestral houses.
At the end of the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to address the district BNP rally as the chief guest at 4 pm. Then, at 5:50 pm, she will inaugurate the new building of the Bogra Press Club and the completion of the construction of the Bogra Baitur Rahman Central Mosque. Finally, after a short break at the Bogra Rural Development Academy, she is scheduled to leave for Dhaka around 7 pm.
It is worth noting that in 2006, the then government expanded the boundaries of the Bogra Municipality to include 48 surrounding mouzas and increased the number of wards from 12 to 21. Since then, there was a plan to upgrade Bogra to a city corporation, but it was not implemented for various reasons. Finally, Bogra received formal recognition as a city corporation with the help of the Prime Minister.
