Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said there is dissatisfaction with the current police uniform. He said this at the closing parade of the 43rd BCS trainee assistant police superintendent batch training at the Bangladesh Police Academy on Saturday (March 28) morning.
The Home Minister said that after talking to officers at different levels of the police, he has understood that the members are not satisfied with the current uniform. Therefore, a decision will be taken after discussing the introduction of traditional and standard new uniforms at the highest level of the government.
He also said that the government wants the police to work as friends of the people instead of being a lathi-force of any political party. For this, initiatives have been taken to transform the police force into a modern, service-oriented and humane force free from party influence. He said that work is also underway to increase manpower, develop skills and form an independent police reform commission.
Remembering the martyred police members of 1971, the minister told the new officers that the country is currently going through a change. Therefore, the new officers will have to perform their duties with integrity, professionalism and humanity. He also highlighted the importance of chain of command, discipline and leadership.
Calling for developing a service-oriented attitude towards the common people, he said that people coming to the police station should find trust in the police. He also emphasized on suppressing cybercrime and acquiring technology-based investigation skills in the era of modern information technology.
