The elected representatives of the 13th National Parliamentary Election are scheduled to take their oath on Tuesday, February 17. The oath will be administered in the morning by Chief Election Commissioner A M M Nasir Uddin.

Secretary of the National Parliament Secretariat, Kaniz Mawla, told the media on Saturday evening that preparations are currently underway for the oath-taking ceremony on February 17.

The 13th National Parliamentary Election was held last Thursday. The following night, on Friday, the Bangladesh Election Commission (EC) published the gazette of the victorious candidates. Since then, the National Parliament Secretariat has begun formal preparations for the swearing-in ceremony, which is usually held in the designated oath hall of the National Parliament building.

The unofficial results for 297 seats were announced on Friday. Due to High Court directives, the gazette for Chattogram-2 and Chattogram-4 constituencies has not yet been issued.

According to the announced results, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won 209 seats, and its candidates are reportedly leading in the two seats where results are pending. BNP’s alliance partners secured three additional seats.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami won 68 seats, and other partners of the Jamaat-led 11-party electoral alliance won a total of nine seats. Ahead of the new parliament’s first session, administrative and organizational preparations for the oath-taking ceremony are being intensified.
