The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned three Bangladeshi nationals through Banglabandha border in Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh. They were handed over to the BGB through a flag meeting on Sunday (December 9) afternoon.
The three returnees are Ananta Kumar Bhowmik (28), his wife Chaiti Rani (23) and three-year-old child Aranya Kumar Bhowmik of Padampal area of Sadar upazila of Sirajganj district.
According to BGB sources, a flag meeting was held at the company commander level in the sub-pillar area of Main Pillar 732, No. 1, on the Phulbari border with India. Five representatives from each country were present in the meeting.
The BGB said that a few days ago, the Fulbari Company Commander of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) informed the Banglabandha Company Commander through WhatsApp that they had detained three Bangladeshi nationals. Initial interrogation revealed that they had illegally crossed the border into India about a year ago.
Later, at the request of the BSF, the BGB verified and confirmed them as Bangladeshi citizens. After that, the BSF officially handed over the three to the BGB through a flag meeting.
The returnees were later handed over to the Tentulia Model Police Station on the basis of GD.
Tentulia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Musa Mia said,
“The three detained Bangladeshis will be handed over to their relatives after completing the legal process.”
According to local sources, the integrated communication system of the BGB and BSF has been further strengthened to prevent illegal infiltration in the border area recently.
Locals are viewing this step by both forces positively from a border security and humanitarian perspective.
