The Last Address Organization is a unique example in the service of humanity.

An exceptional voluntary organization has been established in the area adjacent to Noorani Madrasa, East Paramahal, Jhalakathi—‘Shesh Thika Sangathan’. Established in 2022, this organization is completely apolitical and non-profit. Since its establishment, the organization has been working for the welfare of humanity. Their main objective is to provide humanitarian assistance to people at the last moment of their lives.
The organization’s activities are not limited to funerals or grave digging. When someone dies, they provide everything that is needed in the house—such as chairs, electrical wires, beds, shrouds, incense sticks, perfumes, buckets, etc.—all by themselves. In addition, the members of the organization cooperate in every step, including digging the grave, carrying the body, and burial. The most notable thing is that they do all this work with a completely humanitarian and religious motivation—not in the hope of any financial gain; rather, with the aim of achieving the reward of the hereafter.
According to the organization, from September 2022 to July 2025, ‘Shesh Thikana’ provided free assistance to the families of 58 deceased persons. They made all arrangements for funerals, grave digging and burial for the deceased persons from Paramahal, Goronga, Manpasha, Sholakhira and various surrounding areas. This long list includes many familiar faces of the local society, which proves that the organization has now become a name of trust for the locals.
At the annual meeting of the organization held on October 1, 2025, a new committee with 26 members was announced for one year. Md. Ariful Islam Arif was elected as the president of the newly elected committee and Md. Ferdous Khan Panir became the general secretary. Md. Abdullah Al Fahad is the senior vice-president, and Md. Rakib Hossain Mridha is the vice-president. In addition, young employees and educated youth of the area are serving in various positions including co-editor, treasurer, organizational secretary.
The members of the organization said that they are continuing this humanitarian activity by spending money from their pockets along with their working lives. Gradually, the cooperation and encouragement of the locals are taking their work further forward.
General Secretary Md. Ferdous Khan Panir said,
“We have been relentlessly by the side of people during their last farewell for the last four years. InshaAllah, we will continue to do so in the future. Our dream is to establish such a humanitarian organization in every district of the country, so that the young people are more motivated to do social service.”
He also said that the organization has already applied for registration at the Jhalokati Social Welfare Office. If the government approves, the scope of work will be further expanded and initiatives will be taken to form branches in other areas.
Local residents said that ‘Shesh Thikana’ is now a symbol of trust in the society. When someone dies, the members of the organization are informed first. They quickly arrive and complete the funeral, burial and other formalities.
All in all, it can be said that ‘Shesh Thikana’ is not just an organization, it is a shining example of humanity in the society.
