The police conducted a special operation based on information provided by the accused Mamun Al Mujahid alias Sumon Sheikh (35), who was snatched from the police in Sreepur, Gazipur. During the operation, air guns and country-made weapons were recovered from various places in the Barmi area of the upazila. Along with this, three of Mamun's associates were arrested.
The police of Sreepur Police Station conducted the operation in at least five places on Tuesday night. Mamun Al Mujahid is the son of Muslem Uddin Master, a resident of Barmi Pathantek area of Sreepur upazila. However, the names and identities of the three arrested associates were not immediately disclosed.
According to police sources, the district detective police arrested Mamun from Trimohini area of Sreepur on August 28. But when he was being taken to the police station around 8 pm, his associates attacked the police at Tengra intersection and snatched him. A case was registered at Sreepur Police Station in this incident. After that, on the night of August 31, the detective police arrested Mamun again from Mohammadpur in the capital.
After the arrest, the police conducted a search in Barkul, Pathantek, Barnal, Kushadia and Nandiasangun areas of Barmi Union on Tuesday night based on information provided by Mamun. Air guns, machetes and sticks, along with country-made weapons, were recovered from a small house next to a fish enclosure in Barkul area. Police said that Mamun and his associates used this place to detain people and torture them.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station Md. Abdul Barik said that legal action is underway against the three associates arrested in the operation.
