The police's special operation continues to control the law and order situation across the country. The police have arrested 1,629 people in a 24-hour operation from Saturday night to Sunday morning. Of these, 1,012 were accused of cases and warrants and 617 were arrested on other charges.
Police Headquarters AIG (Media and PR) AHM Shahadat Hossain said that in addition to regular operations, special target-based activities have been strengthened recently. In these operations, not only accused are being arrested, but also various types of weapons and explosives are being recovered.
The list of weapons recovered in the operation is also long. 3 foreign pistols, 1 air gun, 7 LGs, 1 domestically made single-barrel gun, 3 revolver-like weapons, 21 lead ball cartridges, 17 rounds of bullets, 3 cartridges, 3 empty magazines, 7 fired cartridges of 44 caliber, 1 iron knife, 3 hatchets, 6 daggers, 9 nitrogen cartridges and 2 boxes of bomb-making equipment were recovered. Police officials said that the recovery of these weapons means not only curbing crime, but also preventing possible major sabotage or violence.
According to security analysts, the police are conducting simultaneous operations due to the recent political unrest, social crime trends and the increased risk of terrorist activities. Apart from this, such operations also play an effective role in controlling drugs and illegal weapons. Police officials said that although this is part of a regular process, it has been expanded in recent times. They claim that many of the arrested accused were absconding for a long time.
On the other hand, the common people feel that although such operations are necessary to maintain law and order, a fair trial should be ensured against all those arrested. Because, there are allegations that many times ordinary or innocent people are also involved in the operations.
The arrest of 1,629 people in a single day in a special police operation across the country is undoubtedly a major success. However, security experts say that not only arrests, but also identifying the main sources of weapons and crime and ensuring justice is the way to improve the law and order situation in the long run.
