Advisor Asif and BNP supporters clash in Muradnagar, 15 injured

A protest rally organized in Muradnagar Upazila of Comilla to protest against the conspiracy against Advisor Asif Mahmud turned into a battlefield. At least 15 people, including police, journalists and supporters of both sides, were injured in the attack, chase and counter-chase and brickbat pelting incident at the program organized at Allahu Chattar in Muradnagar Upazila Sadar yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.
Asif Mahmud's supporters gathered at Allahu Chattar with a protest procession as per the previous announcement. Shortly after the rally began, brickbat pelting suddenly started from the nearby Zilla Parishad Market. The situation immediately became heated. The two sides started chasing and counter-chasing each other. This led to chaos and chaos on the streets.
Asif Mahmud's advocate Obaidul Haque alleged,
"BNP workers attacked us intentionally. As soon as we brought a procession to the rally, they started throwing bricks at us. More than fifty of our workers and supporters were injured in this."
On the other hand, Muradnagar Upazila BNP convener Mohiuddin Anjan counter-alleged,
"We were peacefully staying in the party office. They (Asif's supporters) attacked first by throwing bricks. At least 15 of us were injured."
Muradnagar Police Station Investigation Officer Amin Kader Khan, who was at the scene, said,
"A protest was going on in support of NCP (Asif Mahmud's party affiliation). Suddenly, some people threw bricks without provocation, and a chase and counter-chase started. The police took immediate action to bring the situation under control."
After the police brought the situation under control, tension prevailed in the area for some time, but the situation is now normal. The situation in the area is tense following the incident. Additional police have been deployed.
Incidentally, Asif Mahmud has been actively involved in political activities in the area for a long time. Recently, his supporters launched a massive campaign against him, alleging a conspiracy. Local political circles believe that this may have triggered the violence.
