Students from various educational institutions have protested in the capital's Secretariat area demanding the resignation of the Education Advisor and Education Secretary. They started the protest by gathering in front of the main gate of the Secretariat on Tuesday (July 22) afternoon. When the situation became heated, all the gates of the Secretariat were closed. Later, the agitated students broke through the main gate and entered the Secretariat.
Students from various educational institutions including Cantonment Public School and College took part in the protest at around 2:30 pm. They made the area in front of the Secretariat buzz with slogans like 'Fake, fake' and 'Why did my brother die, administration answer'.
Among the protesting students, HSC examinee Jonayed Ahmed said, "Such a big accident happened when a plane crashed at Milestone College, yet the announcement of the postponement of the exam was made at around 3 am that night. We set out in the morning with preparations, but on the way we heard that the exam was canceled. We don't want such irresponsible education advisors and secretaries anymore."
The students complained that they were protesting not only because of the Milestone College accident, but also demanding the reevaluation of the records of those who failed the SSC exam. Law enforcement forces were on a tight spot at every entrance to the secretariat. Many government vehicles were stuck inside the secretariat as the gates were closed.
It is worth noting that on Monday, a Bangladesh Air Force training plane crashed at the Milestone School and College campus in Diabari in the capital, resulting in fatalities. In the wake of this incident, today's (July 22) HSC and equivalent exams were postponed. However, the announcement made late at night created intense anger among the examinees.
