Ivy in Kashimpur jail, Narayanganj awash in tears and slogans!

Narayanganj's popular former mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy has been sent to Kashimpur Women's Central Jail. She was transferred from Narayanganj District Jail on Friday (May 9) afternoon.
The three-time elected mayor, whom the people of Narayanganj affectionately call "Ivy Apa" — today saw a different picture. When she was produced in court at 10 am, the judge ordered her to be sent to jail in the case filed in the murder of garment worker Minarul in Siddhirganj.
Police said that no remand application was filed against her, and Ivy did not seek bail. She was sent directly to jail as per the court verdict.
But what shook the city the most was that when the police reached her ancestral home, Chunka Kutir, on Thursday night, the people in the neighborhood immediately took to the streets.
Ordinary people, young and old, old women—all said in one voice:
“We will not let Ivy Apa be taken away in the dark of night.”
The whole night passed in a different kind of anxiety. Some were sitting in front of the house, some were wiping tears from their eyes—such an emotional scene Narayanganj had not seen in a long time.
Around 5:45 in the morning, Ivy herself came out of her house in Deobhog. Even as she was being pushed into a police car, hundreds of people stood on the street to catch a glimpse of her. “Ivy Apa, we are with you”—this slogan shook the city air.
The way she was taken away has left many hearts with questions, anger, and a sigh of love.
