Gana Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur has said that he will not compromise on the issue of banning Awami League. He said, “As much as many people talk about voting and elections, not as much is said about banning Awami League.”

Nurul Haque made these remarks at the Gana Odhikar Parishad protest and mass procession in Purana Paltan in the capital on the afternoon of February 15. The protest was organized to demand the trial of the genocide and the ban on the politics of the genocide perpetrators. The procession started from Purana Paltan and went through Nightingale intersection, Fakirapul intersection, Dainik Bangla intersection and ended at Paltan intersection.

Nurul Haque said, “On February 5, we submitted a memorandum to the chief advisor through the DCs demanding the banning of Awami League. From February 12 to 18, leaflet distribution and mass mobilization will continue demanding justice for the 16 years of genocide and looting during the fascism era. Demonstrations will be held in districts from February 19.''

The leader of the People's Rights Council also said, ''Why should we take to the streets after banning the Awami League six months after the mass uprising? Due to the government's failure in the last six months, it has not been possible to bring the situation under control. Reorganization of the Advisory Council is essential for state reform.'' He said, ''There will be no compromise on the issue of banning the Awami League.''

At this time, he called for organizing local elections and said, ''There is still no representative of the local government. The people are suffering. I am calling on the government to hold local elections within the next two to three months.''

During the protest, the Secretary of the People's Rights Council, Md. Rashed Khan, Dhaka Metropolitan South President Nazim Uddin, Vice President Faruk Hasan, Abu Hanif, Shahidul Islam, Arif Talukder, Mahfuzur Rahman and other party leaders spoke.
