Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement and general secretary of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation, has hinted at participating in the upcoming national parliamentary elections.
He made this indication at a winter clothing distribution program organized at the Maqbular Rahman Government College ground in Panchagarh on Friday.
Sarjis Alam said, “We have always worked with the people’s wishes in mind. The people’s demands are the main focus of all our programs. Now the people want young leaders to represent them in parliament. If the people of Panchagarh think that I or any other young person can take this responsibility, then I am ready to take that responsibility.”
He also said, “The declaration of the July Uprising will be published soon. An outline of the dreams and plans of post-uprising Bangladesh will be outlined in this declaration. This is very important for the people of the country.”
Sarjis said, “Our struggle is not just an election; "Our goal is to establish a fair and transparent electoral system to fulfill the dreams of the people. However, creating a new voter list, reforming the Election Commission, and re-establishing the responsibilities of the law enforcement agencies within 6 months is very challenging."
At the event, he distributed winter clothes to about 2,000 poor people.
