Officers and employees of the Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat have expressed their anger over the incident of raising the 'Joy Bangla' slogan at the Secretariat on January 9. The incident occurred when pro-Awami League officials and employees led by Sheikh Monirul Islam, who is working as the PS of the Acting Parliament Secretary, raised the slogan after meeting the Additional Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat.
Angered by this, the Officers and Employees Welfare Association lodged a written protest. The protest letter stated that by raising the 'Joy Bangla' slogan, fascism is being rehabilitated and it is harmful to the environment of the Parliament Secretariat. They demanded appropriate action against the sloganeers.
The protest letter also said that there are allegations against Sheikh Monirul Islam and his associates that they are creating divisions among government employees and abusing power. They are involved in various irregularities, including promotions, postings, and tender trading.
In addition, officials have alleged that Sheikh Monirul Islam is behaving repressively against them and is exerting influence to implement the agenda of fascism. He is gaining illegal benefits through various opaque activities, including deleting CCTV footage.
In this regard, officials of the National Parliament Secretariat have claimed that the situation may become more complicated if Sheikh Monirul Islam and his associates are not transferred soon. According to them, such a situation can be dangerous for the image of the Parliament Secretariat.
