UN Resident Representative Gwen Lewis has said that the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) wants to help with the parliamentary elections being held in Bangladesh. She said that UNDP is ready to provide all kinds of assistance, including technical support, for the elections.
UNDP held a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) at the Election Commission (EC) office in Agargaon in the capital on Tuesday. After the meeting, Gwen Lewis said, "The type of assistance the Election Commission wants will depend on the type of UNDP's assistance." She added that UNDP will provide them with assistance as per the commission's instructions.
UNDP has been directly assisting the Election Commission in all elections in Bangladesh since 2005. The UN usually provides various types of assistance, including advice, technical assistance, logistical support, training, preparation of voter lists and creating public awareness, in a country's elections.
