Across the Naf River is the city of Maungdaw in Myanmar's Rakhine state, and Teknaf on the other side. The Cox's Bazar-Teknaf border area on the other side is shaking due to the sound of explosions in Maungdaw Township in Myanmar's Rakhine state. Residents of Teknaf Municipality, Sadar, Sabrang and Shahparir Island areas are spending sleepless nights due to the loud sound of the explosions.
People in the border area said that Teknaf was shaken by the sound of explosions one after another from 4 am to 1 pm on Saturday. At that time, aircraft were seen in the sky of Myanmar. It is believed that the bombing is being carried out from aircraft targeting the position of the Arakan Army that has taken control of Maungdaw city.
Local resident Md. Islam said that many people have spent the night outside their homes this winter night due to the sound of Myanmar's shelling. Soon after, the houses shook due to the sound of shelling. They are afraid that they will collapse.
UNO Sheikh Ehsan Uddin said that talks have been held with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard. Taking advantage of this opportunity, strict surveillance and patrolling have been intensified in the border areas to prevent any illegal infiltrators from entering Bangladesh.
