Considering the recent context, the interim government is canceling eight days of national mourning, including children. Related sources said that a decision was taken in this regard in the advisory council meeting last September. On Wednesday (October 16) while talking to the media workers at the secretariat, the advisor of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting spoke about the matter. Nahid Islam. He also said that a new day can be added in the context of mass uprising.
The Information and Broadcasting Adviser said these days were imposed by the fascist government. A national day is a day that is observed by all on the basis of national consensus. Like Victory Day, Independence Day. From that point of view some days have been ruled out. Further such days will be canceled if necessary later. A new day may also be added around the July coup.
Regarding the historic March 7, he said, March 7 is definitely an important day, but not like a national day. Awami League has wasted many days. They started worshiping Sheikh Mujib. We are not completely erasing March 7. I am not erasing the importance of Sheikh Mujib Rahman from history. March 7 will surely go down in history.
In response to a question, he said, of course, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is not the father of the nation. Not just one, but many have played a role in the history of our struggle for this land. Our history did not start only from 1952. There are long struggles in our history, anti-British struggle, 1947 struggle.
Adviser Nahid said, in our history there are many people like Sherbangla AK Fazlul Haque, Hussain Shaheed Sohrawardy, Abul Hashem, Yagen Mandal, Maulana Bhasani. We think there is not one Father of the Nation but many Founding Father's. As a result of whose contribution we got this independent land, independent state. So, as the father of the nation, we do not want to limit one party or one person.
He said, history has versatility. Which Awami League has denied so far. They denied the contribution of Maulana Bhasani, even though he was one of the founders of Awami League. Now is the time to remember everyone's role.
It should be noted that out of the eight days to be cancelled, five are related to the birth and death of Sheikh Hasina's family members. Among them, March 17 is Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's birthday and National Children's Day, August 5 is the birth anniversary of Sheikh Hasina's brother Shaheed Captain Sheikh Kamal, August 8 is Sheikh Hasina's mother Bangmata Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib's birth anniversary, August 15 is Bangabandhu's death anniversary and National Mourning Day and October 18 is Sheikh Hasina's birthday. Brother Sheikh Russell Day.
Also on the cancellation list are the historic March 7, National Constitution Day on November 4 and Smart Bangladesh Day on December 12.
