The Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Energy Affairs of Ukraine was arrested for accepting a bribe of 5 million dollars. The country's internal security agency SBU Security Service confirmed this information in a statement.
The SBU did not reveal the name of the arrested minister. However, his name was revealed by Yuroslav Zhelenayek, an opposition MP in the Ukrainian parliament. The arrested minister's name is Oleksandar Khailo.
Oleksandr is accused of allowing the transfer of coal mining equipment and machinery from war-torn Donetsk province to a mine in western Ukraine and accepting bribes from private mining entrepreneurs in exchange for the approval.
In a statement, the SBU said that the mining equipment Oleksandr allowed to be removed from Donetsk was a government mine. To send anything from the government to the private sector, the permission of the president must be obtained first, but the deputy minister did not take it.
And the 500,000 dollar bribe that the deputy minister took in return for this permission was provided by three private mining entrepreneurs.
Ukraine's Cabinet Office said in a post on social media Telegram that arrested Oleksandr Khailo has been dismissed from the Cabinet.
