Police have arrested a woman and her alleged lover in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on charges of killing her husband with a poisonous snake. Investigators claim that the murder may have been planned due to the insurance money of Rs 20 lakh and extramarital affair.
The deceased has been identified as Atul Pawar. He was a resident of Hastinapur area of Meerut. He ran a school for children with his wife Damini. They got married in 2019.
According to police sources, Damini informed the neighbours on Friday morning that her husband had been bitten by a snake. Later, she rushed Atul to the hospital. However, the doctors declared him dead.
As a poisonous snake was recovered from Atul's bed, it was initially believed that he had died due to the snake bite. However, Atul's family members became suspicious about how the snake reached the bed in the bedroom. Later, they filed a complaint with the police.
Based on the complaint, the police started an investigation and found that Damini had a close relationship with Tushar, the driver of the school run by the couple. Damini and Tushar were then detained and interrogated.
According to the police, during interrogation, Tushar claimed that Damini had planned to kill Atul with a snake bite. As per that plan, she collected a poisonous snake from a snake charmer and delivered it to Damini.
Investigators allege that Atul was given milk laced with sleeping pills on the night of the incident. After he fell into a deep sleep, the poisonous snake was left on his bed.
The police also said that Atul had a life insurance policy of Rs 20 lakh in his name. An investigation is underway to find out whether the murder was planned to get that money.
Atul's wife Damini and the school's driver Tushar have been arrested in this incident. The police are continuing their investigation to find out the plan of the murder, the process of collecting the snake and whether anyone else was involved in it.
