If the ongoing ceasefire with Iran breaks, the United States may launch a new major military operation. US media NBC News reported that the Trump administration is considering a new military plan called ‘Operation Sledgehammer’. If President Donald Trump decides to resume military operations, this new name may be used instead of the previous ‘Operation Epic Fury’.

The growing tension and diplomatic deadlock over the Strait of Hormuz have raised fears of a new conflict within Washington. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently said that ‘Operation Epic Fury’ officially ended after the ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington last month. However, the Pentagon has not yet officially commented on the possible new military operation.

On the other hand, Iran has said that it is not willing to hold any new talks without meeting five important conditions. The country demands a ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, lifting of economic sanctions, return of seized assets, payment of war reparations, and recognition of Iran's sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran's position is that progress in the talks is not possible unless these conditions are met.

The situation has become more complicated after the recent peace talks held in Islamabad failed and Trump called Iran's proposal "completely unacceptable." Tehran had previously rejected the 14-point proposal made by the United States as "unilateral." Tensions have been high in the Middle East since the joint attack by the United States and Israel on February 28.
