Temple wall collapses in India, 6 killed, at least 14 injured

At least six people were killed and at least 14 injured when a temple wall collapsed in the Indian state of Maharashtra amid heavy rains and strong winds. At least 14 others were injured in the incident. The accident occurred at the Margudevi temple in Modewadi village of Sangli district on Tuesday evening.

According to Indian media reports, a large number of devotees and visitors gather at the temple every Tuesday. On the day of the incident, about 350 people were present in the temple premises. When heavy rain and storm suddenly started in the evening, many took shelter under the tin shed next to the temple boundary wall.

At that time, a large part of the wall and the tin shed suddenly collapsed. Many people were buried under the rubble. Local people and rescue workers quickly started a rescue operation and the injured were taken to the hospital.

Sangli District Superintendent of Police Tushar Doshi said that the injured are undergoing treatment and some of them are in critical condition. A shadow of mourning has fallen over the entire area after the accident.
