Indian Visa Services to Resume Soon, Says Sylhet-Based Assistant High Commissioner

Sylhet-based Assistant High Commissioner of India, Aniruddha Das, has announced that all types of Indian visa services, including travel visas, are being restored to normal operations. Currently, medical and double-entry visas are active, and the process to resume other visa categories is underway.

He made the statement during a media briefing on Wednesday (February 18) at the Sylhet District Press Club. According to him, the Bangladesh-India relationship has been built on mutual respect and goodwill, and citizens of both countries play a key role in strengthening and sustaining this relationship over the long term.

Aniruddha Das emphasized that geographical proximity, shared cultural heritage, and growing economic potential should be leveraged to open new opportunities for both nations. He also highlighted the role of journalists in fostering bilateral ties through objective reporting and constructive criticism. He assured full cooperation in facilitating visa issuance.

Visa services had been limited due to political tensions following the events of the 24th, but efforts are now underway to normalize the situation.

During the session, journalists discussed opportunities and challenges in expanding trade and business between Sylhet and India’s northeastern states, as well as potential collaborations in education, culture, and communication infrastructure. They also called for new projects under the ‘Aid to Bangladesh’ and LoC initiatives to boost socio-economic development in the Sylhet region.
