A record number of pilgrims performed Umrah in Mecca in the month of Rabi'us-Sani of the current Hijri year. According to joint statistics from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the General Authority of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, more than 1.17 million people completed Umrah in one month—the highest number in recent times.
According to experts, the Saudi government's modern infrastructure, advanced service systems, and use of digital technology have played a major role in achieving this record. Due to advanced management and technology, performing Umrah for pilgrims has now become much easier, faster, and more comfortable than before.
Gulf News reported in their report that more than 1.5 million of the total pilgrims came from different countries around the world. International media say that the Saudi government has brought extensive modernization to Hajj and Umrah management in the past few years. The number of Umrah participants has increased several times as a result of digital visas, online registration, smart transport, and new infrastructure development.
As part of the Saudi government's Vision 2030 plan, an initiative has been taken to make the access and services of pilgrims to the Two Holy Mosques easier for pilgrims. Its main goal is to make the Umrah and Hajj pilgrimages safe, comfortable and spiritually enriching for Muslims around the world.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said that the Umrah pilgrimage is now much more convenient than before due to digital tools, smart logistics and an integrated service system. Foreign pilgrims can easily complete all visa applications, bookings and journey-related activities online. As a result, they can focus on worship without interruption and their spiritual experience in Mecca and Medina is becoming more soothing.
