The United States has announced the cancellation of Colombian President Gustavo Petro's visa for joining and speaking at a pro-Palestinian protest outside the UN headquarters in New York. The US State Department announced this in a post on social media X on Saturday (September 27).

The post said that Colombian President Petro called on US troops to disobey orders and incite violence while standing on the streets of New York. Although the ministry did not provide details of the allegations, a video circulating on social media showed him joining thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters outside the UN headquarters on Friday (September 26) and speaking.

The incident has sparked intense discussion in the international arena. Many believe that the US move could have a major impact on diplomatic relations.

Earlier, on the fourth day of the UN General Assembly session, Colombian President Gustavo Petro announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Israel. On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the meeting that Israel must be given a chance to "finish the job" in Gaza. He strongly criticized Western countries for recognizing Palestine as a state, calling it a "shameful decision."

As a result, the open pro-Palestinian stance of one of the heads of state of Latin America on the one hand, and the harsh reaction of the United States on the other, added a new dimension to international politics surrounding the Middle East crisis.
