Former US President Donald Trump has now directly lobbied for the Nobel Peace Prize. British media outlet Reuters reported that, citing a national Norwegian daily, Dagens Nyringslev, Trump called Norwegian Finance Minister Jens Stoltenberg and expressed his interest in receiving the Nobel himself.
The report said that during discussions on customs and economic cooperation in July this year, Trump directly said that he wanted the Nobel Peace Prize. Earlier, Israel, Pakistan and Cambodia had nominated his name for the Nobel Prize. However, this time he himself claimed to a Norwegian minister that he was worthy of the Nobel.
However, the published information did not mention the name of any specific source. There was no comment from the Nobel Committee or the White House on this matter.
On the other hand, Finance Minister Stoltenberg said that Trump's call was primarily aimed at the Norwegian Prime Minister and the topic of discussion was tariffs and economic cooperation. He also said that it is not possible to disclose the details of the conversation.
Incidentally, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announces the Peace Prize every year by considering the names of various worthy individuals and institutions. However, the issue has come under international discussion since Trump called the Norwegian minister directly and made his proposal.
