The two Southeast Asian neighbors Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to an immediate ceasefire to resolve their border dispute. This important decision came at a peace meeting organized by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The meeting, held at the official residence of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya, Malaysia on Monday (July 28), was chaired by him as the ASEAN chairman. The closed-door meeting was attended by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechachaichai.
The meeting discussed the ongoing border tensions and military confrontation between the two countries and decided to agree to an immediate ceasefire to avoid conflict, Anwar Ibrahim said. The agreement is being considered an important step forward for regional stability and peace in Southeast Asia.
