Yemen's armed forces have claimed that a hypersonic missile attack was launched from Yemen, a close ally of Tehran, on Israel's commercial capital Tel Aviv. Analysts are considering the attack as a new turning point in the heated situation in the Middle East.
The missile attack was launched in the early hours of Sunday (June 15), said Yemeni military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Sari. He said that the operation was carried out in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Yahya Sari said that a key military installation in Israeli-occupied Tel Aviv was successfully targeted in the early morning operation using hypersonic ballistic missiles. This was a new type of military response from the Yemeni forces.
He also said that several hypersonic ballistic missiles called ‘Palestine-2’ will be launched from various missile units in Yemen in the next 24 hours at the Israeli-occupied Jaffa region. These missiles will target the enemy’s military bases, command centers and strategic installations.
The Yemeni army said that the attack was carried out in protest against the recent Israeli aggression in Gaza and in solidarity with the Palestinian resistance movement. Yahya Sari said that Yemen will continue its military support until the siege and attacks on Gaza are lifted.
Israel has not yet made any official statement about the attack. However, sources said that the country’s army and intelligence agencies have been put on high alert.
Analysts believe that an effective military coordination between Iran, Hezbollah and the Yemeni Houthis is now becoming a reality. Tensions across the Middle East are reaching new levels over the Israel-Gaza war, and this attack is a manifestation of that.
