China has clearly taken a stand by Iran. Reacting strongly to Israel's recent military aggression, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called Israel a 'barbaric' state. He said that Israel's attack on Iran violated international law and China directly rejects such behavior.
Al Jazeera reported on Sunday (June 15) that Wang Yi recently had separate phone calls with the foreign ministers of Iran and Israel, citing a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry. He made it clear that while the international community is still seeking a peaceful solution to the Iranian nuclear issue through diplomacy, such a military attack will only make the situation more heated and complicated.
Wang Yi also said that it is never possible to establish lasting peace through conflict and the use of force. Therefore, China firmly believes that the diplomatic path to resolving the nuclear crisis is still open and that it should be given priority.
On the other hand, in a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, the Chinese Foreign Minister said that China strongly condemns Israel's attack on Iran's sovereignty, security and territorial integrity. He described the attack as "barbaric" and "a dangerous precedent" that could lead to dire consequences in the future.
Such a position by China has added a new dimension to the diplomatic equation in the Middle East. In the context of Iran-Israel tensions, China is now not only a world power, but also a proponent of justice-based international diplomacy.
