The UK and the US have refused to sign the International Artificial Intelligence (AI) Charter at a conference held in Paris, France. However, 60 countries, including France, China and India, have historically signed this charter.

The British Prime Minister's Office has reported that the UK could not agree on all parts of the charter, so it will only sign initiatives that are consistent with its national interest.

US Vice President JD Vance said that additional restrictions could hinder the development of the technology. He added, "AI development requires restrictions that encourage innovation."

French President Emmanuel Macron has commented in favor of stricter regulations for the development of AI technology, saying, "We need regulations to ensure the development of AI technology."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed the importance of the conference, saying, "Now we need to move towards real action."

The AI Charter's main goals include ensuring equality and access to AI technology, making development transparent and safe, and ensuring sustainable AI for people. Experts have warned that in the future, AI technology could have the same power needs as many small countries.

The decision by the UK and the US could create new challenges in Western relations, and experts say the UK could put its position as an AI leader at risk.

Meanwhile, trade relations between the US and Europe have also become tense. President Trump has decided to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium imports into the US, which will affect the UK and EU economies.

The UK is currently pursuing a strategy of maintaining good relations with the Trump administration while building closer ties with Europe.
