The Palestinian independence movement Hamas has released four female Israeli soldiers who were held hostage in Gaza for 15 months.

They were handed over by the Red Cross shortly after 11 a.m. Palestinian time on Saturday. The news was published by Al Jazeera.

Hamas released four female Israeli soldiers in the second phase of the first phase of the ceasefire. The soldiers who were released are: Liri Albagh (19), Daniela Gilboa (20), Karina Ariyev (20), and Nama Levi (20).

Before the hostages were released, members of Hamas and its allied organization Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) held a massive showdown in the Gaza City square, where preparations were underway to release the four Israeli hostages.

Footage broadcast by Al Jazeera showed a large gathering of ordinary Palestinians in the area. Israel has been searching for Hamas fighters for 15 months in a brutal military operation.

Hamas fighters have shown renewed strength since the ceasefire, and their videos show that they have not been deterred by the Israeli aggression. They are showing signs of victory despite the deaths of top leaders such as Ismail Haniyeh and Yahya Sinwar.

Last week, Hamas released three Israeli prisoners. This time, Hamas members were seen standing at the site of the release, holding a large banner that read in Hebrew: “Zionism will not win.” The banner also featured the symbols of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Shin Bet intelligence agency.
