Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping pledged to further strengthen relations between Russia and China through a video conference.
The two leaders made this promise the day after Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. According to a report by the Russian news agency TAAS, Putin and Xi discussed Eurasian security and bilateral relations.
Putin said, “We are working to ensure the indivisible security of the Eurasian region and the world.” He added that Russia is currently China’s main supplier of natural gas.
Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping also reiterated his support for the ‘one China policy’ and discussed the situation in the Asia-Pacific region. Putin and Xi Jinping reiterated their commitment to building their relationship on the basis of friendship, mutual trust, and equal opportunities.
Deputy Kremlin spokesman Yuri Ushakov said that the Russian president has been informed of the contents of Xi Jinping's phone call with Donald Trump. In addition, the situation in Ukraine and relations with the United States were also discussed during the video conference.
Analysts believe that this initiative is a major example of the commitment to further strengthening Russia-China relations.
