The White House said that US President Donald Trump has lifted the ban on Israeli settlers in the West Bank. Trump has made a major political change by revoking Executive Order 14115 issued during the Biden administration.
The Biden administration had imposed sanctions against Israeli settlers, which confiscated their US assets and prohibited US citizens from doing business with them. However, according to Trump, these sanctions were having a negative impact on US relations with Israel.
With Trump's decision, his administration has taken a position contrary to the Biden government's policy. The West Bank, occupied since the 1967 war, has been considered illegal by most countries. However, Israel claims its rights on historical and religious grounds.
Yisrael Gantz, chairman of the main organization of Israeli settlers, welcomed the move. He said that he had expected such a move after Trump's re-election.
There are doubts about the impact this decision will have on efforts to establish peace in the West Bank and a two-state solution.
