Voting took place at midnight at a polling station in Dixville Notch, a small town in the northeastern state of New Hampshire, USA. Six registered voters voted for their preferred candidate in the polling station at midnight on Monday. At the end of the vote count, the Democratic party candidate Kamala Harris and the Republican party Donald Trump have received the same number of votes.
Following the US tradition since 1960, the polling started after midnight at the polling station in Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. Six registered voters reportedly went to the polling station on the US-Canada border just after midnight on Monday. After a short time, the polling and counting of votes was over there.
Election officials announced the results after counting the votes. It shows that Democrat Kamala Harris got 3 votes and Republican Donald Trump got 3 votes.
The polling station was opened in accordance with decades of tradition before the voting began in the 47th presidential election of the United States. In this election, the opinion polls of various organizations show that there is a big fight between the vice president of the Democratic party and the former president of the Republican party.
According to old tradition, residents of the town of Dixville vote at midnight on Mondays. At this time, the voting ceremony started by playing the National Anthem with the help of various musical instruments. The city was thronged with journalists as the first polling began.
New Hampshire's election law requires polls to open at midnight in towns with fewer than 100 residents. At the same time, the doors of the polling station are closed when all the registered voters exercise their right to vote.
Earlier, Dixville Notch residents unanimously voted for presidential candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Last year, he became the second presidential candidate to win all the city's votes since the tradition of midnight voting began in 1960.
Most polling stations on the US East Coast will open between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. local time on Tuesday. Residents of Dixville Notch voted unanimously for Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire primary last January.
However, after Nikki Haley dropped out of the race, Donald Trump won the Republican nomination.
