The armed Islamic group Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on Israel's third largest city Haifa throughout the night on Sunday, based in Lebanon. Hezbollah fired at least 120 rockets at Haifa last night, local media reported, citing the country's defense forces (IDF).
Administrative officials and public representatives of Haifa said that this was the first such attack in this important port city of Israel.
However, the IDF destroyed 115 rockets before they hit their targets through air defense systems. But 5 could not be demolished. And at least 8 people were injured in Hoifa by these 5 rockets, 1 of them is in critical condition. All the injured have been admitted to Rambam Hospital in the city.
Videos circulating on social media showed a number of boats in the port of Haifa catching fire due to the rocket attack. Apart from this, it is also known that some residential buildings have caught fire.
Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav visited some of the areas hit by rockets on the ground early Monday morning. "This is the first truly destructive attack in Haifa and I hope it will be the last," he told reporters waiting there. Whatever was destroyed in the attack, will be repaired. The municipal people will take care of these repairs.”
Hezbollah issued a statement Monday morning claiming responsibility for the attack. It is said there, the group carried out this rocket attack in protest against the Israeli campaign in Lebanon.
