The 79th General Session of the United Nations is going to start on September 10 in New York, USA. And during this session, the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of Bangladesh wants to have a sideline meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Muhammad Yunus.

He said this in an interview given to India's state news agency PTI. The second part of the interview given to PTI last Sunday was published in the Indian media on Friday.

Dr. Yunus said, "Should there be a revival of the spirit of SAARC, the eight-member bloc can solve many of the region's problems."

"Of course, we will try to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi," the chief adviser said. All the heads of state of the SAARC countries will try to take a picture together. SAARC was formed for a noble purpose, it now exists only on paper. We have forgotten the name of the SAARC. I am trying to revive the SAARC spirit.”

Yunus said, "The SAARC summit has not been held for a long time. Although the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was formed with a noble objective, it now exists only on paper and is not functioning. Many problems will be solved if we come together."

He also pointed out that the European Union, formed on similar lines as SAARC, has achieved a lot through mutual cooperation, but SAARC is yet to achieve this.

Since 2016, SAARC has been largely inactive.

The High Level General Session of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly will be held from 24-30 September.
