Stroke is a serious disease that can suddenly cause life-threatening injuries. A recent study has revealed that there may be a relationship between a person's blood group and the risk of stroke.
A study published in the international research journal Neurology has highlighted important information on this subject. It has been found that people under the age of 60 with blood group 'A' have a relatively higher risk of stroke.
This study, led by researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the United States, analyzed the data of about 17,000 stroke victims, who were between the ages of 18 and 59. In addition, various genetic characteristics were also tested.
The results of the study show that the risk of stroke is about 16 percent higher for people with group 'A'. On the other hand, the risk is about 12 percent lower for people with group 'O'.
Neurologist Steven Kittner, one of the authors of the study, said that it is not yet completely certain why people with group 'A' have a higher risk. However, it is believed that the tendency of blood clotting may play a role behind this.
Experts say that a stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted or a blood vessel ruptures. More extensive research on the relationship between blood type and this risk may reveal new ways to prevent stroke in the future.
