World Handwashing Day

Today, October 15, is World Handwashing Day. The day is being celebrated to promote the practice of hand washing globally to increase public awareness. Like other countries of the world, in Bangladesh, like every year, the day is being celebrated with due dignity by the initiative of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. This year's theme of World Handwashing Day - 'Why clean hands are still important?'

The President said that by the year 2030, the President has called on all concerned, including public and private institutions and development agencies, to play an active role in achieving the 'Sustainable Development Goals' and increasing public awareness about proper sanitation, waste management and hygiene. Meanwhile, the chief adviser of the interim government said in a statement. Muhammad Yunus said, Our goal is to ensure safe sanitation and clean water supply for all by 2030. For that purpose, it is very important to observe 'World Hand Washing Day' properly and to increase the awareness of hygiene promotion.
It is known that World Handwashing Day started in 2008. The day was first observed by GHP on 15th October that year in Stockholm, Sweden during World Water Week to create awareness about handwashing with soap at global, regional and local levels. Later the UN General Assembly decided to observe the day every year.
It is a campaign day conducted to create and inspire global public awareness. The main objective of World Handwashing Day is to support and promote a common culture of handwashing with soap, focus on handwashing in every country and raise awareness about the benefits of handwashing with soap.
