Traders have withdrawn the two-day strike that was set to close LPG cylinder sales outlets across the country. The LPG Traders' Cooperative Society Limited announced this decision on Wednesday (October 14) afternoon. Consequently, the previously announced plan to shut down LPG cylinder shops nationwide on Thursday and Friday has been cancelled.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, relevant government officials held a meeting with LPG operators at the Secretariat. Following the meeting, Minister of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku and Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir urged the traders to call off the strike.
The two ministers also warned that strict legal action would be taken if the strike proceeded.

The Energy Minister stated that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East has caused instability in the international fuel market. In this context, the government is working to maintain a steady fuel supply and keep prices affordable for consumers.
He further added that if attempts are made to drive up prices of essential commodities through strikes, the relevant 1956 law would be enforced. He also urged the traders to resolve their issues through dialogue.
Earlier, on Monday, Selim Khan, President of the LPG Traders' Cooperative Society, had announced the two-day strike at a press conference held at the National Press Club in the capital. The organization had decided to close shops on Thursday and Friday, citing harassment faced by LPG cylinder traders.
However, with the withdrawal of the strike following discussions with the government, the immediate threat of a halt in LPG cylinder sales has been averted.
