The price of eggs has increased the pressure in the capital's daily commodities market. In a week, the price of farm eggs has increased by 10 to 15 taka per dozen. There is no relief in the fish market either. However, the prices of beef, mutton and chicken are at the previous level. Although the supply of some vegetables has increased during the monsoon, several vegetables are being sold at higher prices.

On Friday (July 10), a visit to several markets in the capital, including Rayerbazar and Dhanmondi, showed that white farm eggs are being sold at 120 taka per dozen and red eggs at 130 taka. Last week, the price of these eggs was 110 to 115 taka per dozen.

Traders say that the increase in prices at the wholesale level has also affected the retail market. Egg seller Roman said that due to buying eggs at higher prices, they are having to charge higher prices from buyers than before.

Not much change has been seen in the meat market. Beef is being sold for 750 to 800 taka per kg and mutton for 1,100 to 1,200 taka. Broiler chicken is being sold for 180 to 190 taka per kg. Golden chicken is being sold for about 330 taka per kg.

Most of the prices of products in the fish market are out of reach of ordinary buyers. Depending on the size and quality, shrimp is being sold for 600 to 800 taka per kg, pabda for 300 to 400 taka, big rui for 400 to 450 taka and tangra for 600 to 800 taka.

The price of bhetki fish is 400 to 550 taka per kg, tilapia for 220 to 230 taka, pangash for 200 to 220 taka and mrigel for 250 to 300 taka. It costs 400 to 500 taka to buy koi fish. Baim fish is being sold for 600 to 800 taka, poa for about 260 taka and shoal fish for 700 taka per kg.

The high price in the hilsa market also continues. The price of hilsa weighing 800 to 900 grams is Tk 2,000 to Tk 2,200 per kg. The price of hilsa weighing one kg or more has increased to Tk 2,300 to Tk 2,400.

However, there has been no major change in the prices of farmed tilapia, pangash, koi and medium-sized rui fish. Farmed shung fish is being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 450 per kg. Medium rui is priced at Tk 300 to Tk 350. The prices of rupchanda, river bowal and big shoal fish have exceeded Tk 1,000 per kg in many cases.

Rayerbazar fish trader Montaj Uddin said that the prices of fish have been at almost the same level for several months. The prices of shrimp, big rui, rupchanda and shoal are usually high. However, the price of hilsa has reached an abnormal level due to higher demand than supply in the market.

Anisur Rahman, a resident of Dhanmondi, said that he bought shoal fish at Tk 700 and bhetki at Tk 400 per kg. According to him, the current price of fish is creating a lot of pressure for the middle-class and low-income people.

Meanwhile, the supply of red cabbage and green cabbage has increased in the market due to the monsoon. Red cabbage is available at 10 taka and green cabbage at 15 taka. The price of potatoes has increased by 5 taka per kg to 25 taka. A gourd is being sold for about 50 taka.
