The much-awaited film 'Michael', based on the life of the late music legend Michael Jackson, is set to be released on April 24, 2026. The film will be shown simultaneously in regular cinemas and IMAX around the world. Lionsgate will distribute it in the United States, and Universal Pictures is in charge of the rest of the world. Kino Films is distributing it only in Japan.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film is written by John Logan. Michael is played by his nephew Jafar Jackson. Oscar-winner Graham King is the producer. This film, with a budget of about $ 155 million, is not only the story of Michael's musical life, but also the story of his unique journey from an ordinary teenager to becoming the world-famous 'King of Pop'. The film will show Michael's heartbreaking struggles, family ties and the lasting impression of his artistic career.
The film's shooting was completed in May 2024, but the release date was postponed due to the time it took to reshoot and edit some parts. Initially, the film was planned to be released in two parts, but later it was decided to release it together and release it all at once.
The film also stars Colman Domingo (Michael's father Joe Jackson), Nia Long (mother Katherine Jackson), Miles Teller (lawyer John Branca), Kat Graham (Diana Ross), and many other senior and young stars.
'Michael' is not just the success story of a stage artist, it is the story of a man—who did not give up, who became an inspiration in the hearts of people through music. This time, that legend will be seen on the big screen, in a new light.
